i've noticed the last couple of times i've reinstalled FTgate from a backup that the words tend to get mixed up. this time all of the bad words have gone, some of the safe words have gone and some of the bad words are in the safewords list.
i'm sure i'm not going mad and am reasonably confident this has happened a couple of times at least when recovering from a backup.
any ideas?

| I think there must have been some corruption in the index list for the words. We are chnaging the backup format to resolve this problem. |

still seeing a problem with the safewords. every so often (maybe when the server reboots?) the safewords list "reverts" to a previous list (ie it loses a load of entries).
most annoying - unfortunately I can't seem to isolate what's triggering it.

more info. the server has NOT been rebooted since my last post, and yet i've just logged back onto to FTGate admin and spotted that the safewords list is "out of date" again.
the service hasn't been restarted either - so really not sure what's going on!

yes, but now you mention it, I think it may have updated to 6.3.001 in the last 48 hours so i'll keep an eye on it now and let you know if it happens again.
cheers,
Jonny

it's happened again :-(
i only noticed it's happened because I lose an email to the spam folder which contains a safe word, so I log onto FTGate Admin and notice the safeword list is an old version.
how very odd!

| Jonny, I have noticed this is the same issue for me as well! Except for me it dumped the bad words all together and was blank. I had to reload from a text file I had saved with them. I also had all of my SPAM rules dissapear too, then rebooted and they came back. |

Both of these are sounding like a corruption of the main dictionary used by FTGate to manage all the safe words/bad words/ubeblock.
I would normally expect a restore of the database from a backup to fix the problem as this builds a new index. If this doesnt work it may mean having to remove the dictionary completely and build a new one. |

| HI Richard, I'm one of the folks you recently helped where i had to do a rebuild with a backup and it didn't work. So something is very funky... |

Richard,
How do i remove the dictionary altogther then? I assume I can re-import the safewords from the text file once it's restarted?

OK more info. I can actually recreate this bug consistently just by restarting FTGate - every time i restart it reverts to an old version of the Safewords list.

If you have this problem then pleae send a copy of your latest backup to me. I will see if I can find a cause by comparing the resulting restores.
Send them as a zip please to support@ftgate.com |
